Palo Verde National Park is located on over 45,500 acres of land that are protected by law, and the Ramsar Convention has declared its wetlands internationally important. Palo Verde is part of a geographical unit known in Spanish as Bajuras of Tempisque (the lowlands of the Tempisque River). Travel through this river on a motor boat and find around 12 different types of habitats, including four different species of mangrove trees, aquatic plants and 150 species of trees, like the one from which the Park’s name is taken: Palo Verde, a shrub with leafy branches and a pale green trunk.
Visit Liberia, known as the White City due to the white appearance of the gravel terrain on which the city is built. Take the opportunity to learn about its historic houses and appreciate this picturesque place, its handcrafts and local stores.
